Good Morning Colleagues,
Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, we recognise that all human rights are universal, indivisible, interdependent and interrelated.
Today, we acknowledge that widespread discrimination, stigma, harassment, and bullying violate basic human rights and negatively impact society as a whole.
Today, we recognise that LGBTQIA+ people are entitled to the same human rights as everyone else – including the right to life, security, privacy, health, education, housing, freedom from discrimination, freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.
As stated by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres: “The United Nations firmly stands with the LGBTQIA+ and SOGIESC community and will continue working until human rights, and dignity are a reality for all people”.
The theme of this year’s IDAHOBIT Day is “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all”. This theme reminds us of our obligations to respect the human rights and dignity of every person. A theme that highlights the need for action to turn those rights into reality.
Let us stand together in solidarity, advocating for a world where everyone can live free from discrimination and violence.
Thank you.
