UNDSCF Development Partners Consultations
Jaap van Hierden, Resident Coordinator
UN Micronesia Multi-Country Office
Your Excellencies,
Development Partners,
Distinguished Guests,
UN Colleagues,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
Kaselehlie, Mauri, Tubwa Kor, Alii, Iakwe, good morning to you from Micronesia!
The 2023-2027 UN Cooperation Framework is an evidence-based regional strategy that is being developed through a participative and inclusive process. It will be translated into action at the national level through dedicated joint UN country implementation plans. The Common regional and country analyses have highlighted the main challenges required to be addressed over the next five years in order to move towards the realization of SDGs.
The cooperation framework charts the course of the UN’s contribution to progressing towards the in the Pacific for the next 5 years and beyond. It is a framework that aspires to build on the progress made through the existing and soon to conclude UN Pacific Strategy, and will help us to continue to enable that no-one is left behind in the Pacific Region.
This framework is constructed on the foundations of UN principles and values and proposes the UN ‘s integrated response. It has an emphasis on Peace, Partnership, Planet, Prosperity, and People as per the 2030 Agenda. And thereby addresses the multitude of environmental, economic and social development challenges being faced in the Pacific region.
The UN in the Pacific hopes to finalise the Cooperation Framework by July. Following this, we will shift our focus to the development of the Country Implementation Plans (CIPs). Focusing on each country’s national priorities, the CIPs are the country-level action plans that outline the UN programme at the individual country level. Further local-level consultations will be held with the relevant development stakeholders at the country level during the development of these implementation plans.
It would have been impossible for the UN to have made the progress it has over the past five years without your support. Your feedback and our discussions today will help to strengthen the UN Cooperation Framework and promote alignment with your strategies and priorities.
These consultations should be viewed as part of our regular dialogue with all development partners and stakeholders. A dialogue that we intend to continue throughout the implementation of the 2023-2027 Cooperation Framework. Both at regional and local levels.
As you may appreciate and as underlined in the 2030 Agenda, transformative change and progress towards the SDGs in the Pacific can only be achieved if all development partners work together.
On that note, we look forward to fruitful deliberations over the next few hours.
Thank you very much.
